Pick the Spot, Call the Shot (Putting)
This plays like the standard game of “Horse” with a little twist. With two putters and a marker, pick a fun word with the length determining the time span of the game (we usually pick one of the city names we are in or nearby). Flip for order and pick the spot from which to putt. Call the shot and try to make both. The next person tries to make as many to not get any letters. If they make more than the shooter, the shooter gets the letter(s), if they make less they get that many letters. The first one to spell the word becomes the first clown down.
Five
In the game of “Five” the object is to not get to five and face elimination. Another version with three putters where the shooter picks the spot and sets the bar based on the amount of made putts. The next person then has to make that many or receive a point for each putt not matched. If they make more than the shooter, the shooter gets the point(s). If there are more than two people, the third person goes and now has to make the newly set bar or receive that many points and so on. If player three makes more putts than the set bar, the first players will receive that many points retroactively. Get five points and your out.
Cinderella Story
This is my favorite after practice game. You are “Carl Spackler” of Bushwood Country Club, alright just kidding. This game is to put your mind in some game time situations. Take six putters and while standing near the basket throw, roll and toss your putters randomly in different directions. I try to have a mix of short putts and longer jumpers. Approach each lie like this is your birdie attempt for this hole. Move around to each shot and give it your full attention. Since there are 18 holes you will have to repeat throwing out the putters for three rounds. I usually try to make at least one of the six shots in each round from a knee or straddle. I change it up, but usually strive for going -14 by completing that many putts. If I can go -14, I win the 18 hole tournament. Scoring -13 ties me for a five putt sudden death where I must make three of five. Scoring -12 gets 2nd place and so on. If you are playing with more than one you just play heads up and see whose has scored the most birdies. Don’t forget to give honors after each round where the leader will always putt first the next round.
